Citadel Tours<\/h2>\n

One of the best preserved Renaissance fortresses in Europe, the Juliusturm – Berlin’s oldest building -, museums and exhibitions of modern art – the Citadel is a cultural location and an island of history. With its extraordinary fortress history and numerous exciting exhibitions, it has something of interest for all visitors. Berlin und seine Denkm\u00e4ler”. The tour is primarily aimed at blind and visually impaired people, but sighted visitors are also welcome. They all receive historical information and detailed pictorial descriptions of selected objects in the exhibition and then explore them with different senses \u2013 by touching, smelling and hearing. Through their sensory impressions and sensations, they approach the objects in different ways. In the dialogue that develops, the different “views” of the objects become clear \u2013 a truly inclusive experience in the museum.<\/p>\n

The public tour gives an overview of the eventful history of the citadel and then takes you to a special exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art. During a dialogue tour, you will get to know the spacious new exhibition house for contemporary art and gain insight into exciting positions in contemporary art that sometimes deal with the past of the citadel on 2500 square meters of exhibition space.<\/p>\n

Casemates<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The citadel’s casemates form one of the largest winter habitats for bats in Europe. They are therefore only accessible to visitors for three months a year. The vaulted corridors with their thick walls were built for defensive purposes. During your visit to the casemates of the Bastion K\u00f6nig, you will not only explore one of the oldest areas of the citadel, most of which has been preserved in its original state, but also a place of cinematic interest, including “Der Hexer” by Edgar Wallace filmed here in 1964.<\/p>\n
