The Leipzig painter Henriette Grahnert (*1977 in Dresden) moves brilliantly between, in and above the visual coordinate systems of a post-postmodern image culture. Her painterly compositions – which sometimes seem like collages at first glance – are based on quotations, associations and reminiscences. They seem to bring disparates from different times, styles andisms together. Sometimes they appear as a cheerful capriccio, sometimes they develop a differentiated analysis of painting, its possibilities and limits. What emerges from this are pictorial spaces with a structure that is as complex as it is sometimes impressively clear. Art history – especially that of modernity – is not just a source of motifs, but also a sounding board for intensive discussions with historical, social and cultural references and thus a tool for contemporary surveys. The viewer is \u00bbnot confronted with a hermetically sealed cosmos, but rather discover a multitude of tragicomic Don Quixotes that provoke identification, empathy and a diffuse feeling of solidarity.\u00ab<\/em> [In German: Harriet Zilch]<\/p>\n
