Following the agreement reached in the negotiations over the so-called “Thorak-Pferde” the sculptures by the artist Josef Thorak (1889-1952) will be brought to the Zitadelle Spandau. Thorak was one of the preferred artists under National Socialism. He created the two overdimensional “Striding Horses” for the garden side of Adolf Hitler’s New Reich Chancellery. After their adventurous journey via Wriezen and Eberswalde in Brandenburg and Bad D\u00fcrkheim in the Palatinate, the controversial propaganda art returned to Berlin. Here they will be shown in connection with further “toxic” remembrance culture at the Zitadelle Spandau.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In cooperation with the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Spandau, students of the master’s program “B\u00fchnenbild_Szenischer Raum” of the Technical University of Berlin have taken part in the project “Idea Seminar for the Expansion of the Exhibition: ‘Enth\u00fcllt. Berlin und seine Denkm\u00e4ler’ in connection with Josef Thorak’s striding horses'” in the winter semester 2021\/22. They dealt with the development and testing of new forms of narrative spatial design. The program is distinguished by its practice- and project-oriented elements.<\/p>\n

In the exhibition at the Bastion Kronprinz, the ideas and the five concepts of the students are presented by self-created models and video documentation. As an introduction, excerpts from previous media coverage of the “Thorak-Pferde” will be shown.<\/p>\n
