The central theme of his art is the breaks and productive voids in Modernism as well as in German and European history.
Based on architectural incunabula, such as Hans Scharoun’s Berliner Philharmonie, Weis develops analytical re- and new stagings. His multidimensional settings move themselves at the interface between architecture and display, between technical construction and artistic object. They create new associative approaches to the architectural theory of modernity and its utopian contents. The exhibition changes deliberately refers to the perfect Renaissance form of the citadel ground plan in the so-called “Lynarplan” of 1578. In comparison with formal constants of modern architecture, the artist broadens the view to social and political questions in the context of architecture, state, war and identity.

Supported by a funding from Senate Department for Culture and Europe / Department of Culture, with the friendly support by Berliner Sparkasse and Dekodur.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”4281″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]

ill.: Albert Weis, parts, 2016, Aluminium, Neon, Foto: Albert Weis © VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn, 2018

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”black” border_width=”3″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”633″ img_size=”285×285″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]

Location

ZAK Center for Contemporary Art // Old Barracks

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”6614″ img_size=”285×285″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] 13.10.2018 – 6.1.2019 ZAK Center for Contemporary Art – Gallery The exhibition changes shows sculptural, photographic and cinematic works by the Berlin artist Albert Weis (*1969 in Passau).
