In his exhibition “Ornament als Stadt” (“Ornament as City”) in the project space of the ZAK, the Berlin-based artist refers to international military conflicts and refugee movements, to linguistic diversity and normative conventions of everyday life, which also shape his own life in urban space. In his installations and objects, these themes are abstracted into complex forms and visual worlds. Apparently organically, for example, a mosaic spreads out from the centre of the room, consisting of a multitude of differently shaped abstract ornaments, yet perfectly forming a whole. In another work, a neon sign in neon colours welcomes visitors inside – in left-hand script. They are symbols of an utopian representation of society in which the self-evident superimposition of different lifestyles takes the place of a norm. Fernando Niño-Sánchez’s works thus develop a space of association in the field of tension between migration, social conventions and transcultural possibilities of experience.

Curated by Friederike Kröbel

With the kind support of the district promotion fund of the Senate Administration for Culture and Europe.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”6340″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]

Ill.
