Sunday 30.3.2025 1.30 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.
We warmly invite you to the finissage of the exhibition Views. Theo Hofschläger at the Zitadelle Spandau, in Bastion Kronprinz, marking the conclusion of this remarkable showcase.
The exhibition presents the artistic diversity of a Weimar-era reform educator. Theo Hofschläger was an art and craft teacher at the Lebensgemeinschaftsschule Spandau, founded in 1922—until he was banned from his profession by the National Socialists in 1933, leading to the school’s closure. Despite this, he continued to document his travels in diaries and watercolor paintings, created portraits of himself and his family, and produced linocuts and impressive wood carvings.
His Views were deeply shaped during his years at the reform school, a period of progress and innovation in the Weimar Republic. As an educator, he embraced an open, inspiring approach to working with young people. His artistic work reflected the experimental spirit of the time, exploring different materials and techniques.
Silvia Tauchelt, Uwe Hofschläger, and Enno Hofschläger have carefully examined his extensive body of work. For the first time, they present a representative and characteristic selection of his creations, offering insight into the ideas and experiences of a new, free, and creative school system.
Don’t miss this final opportunity to view Theo Hofschläger’s works and engage with the curators. They will be available in the exhibition from 2 pm for discussions and questions.
Additionally, from 2 pm, we experiment with linocut printing—an exciting technique that also played a role in Hofschläger’s work.
