Welcome: Dr. Carola Brückner, District Councillor for Culture
Introduction: Dr. Ralf F. Hartmann, Spandau Department of Culture
In the field of tension between the assertion of rationality of scientific models of representation and the irrational openness of mythical-spiritual rituals the Cologne-based media artist Harald Fuchs (* 1954 in Rehau) develops complex spatial stagings.
The intensive experiences from his numerous ethnological and archaeological research trips very often serve as a source of inspiration for his paintings and installations.
The interpenetration of photography, film, object, cartography, text and sound results in multisensory displays and an aesthetic parcours that takes the viewers into the world of paradoxes and surrealism.
Many of the works elude clear definitions and remain in the area of vagueness and suggestion. The penetration of parallel worlds between new knowledge and mythology relies entirely on the magic of spaces and images. With his art, Harald Fuchs creates worlds of experience and perception that combine both the aura of the object and the possibilities of media technologies to create an aesthetic-intellectual resonance space. His spatial installations combine different levels of reality and thus create a breeding ground for old and new narratives.
With the kind support of the district development funds of the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
