Opening: Who Wrote What on the Flag? Part 3

Commander´s House

Friday 28.2.2025 12.00 p.m. - 1.00 p.m.

Once again this year, museology students from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences have practiced inventorying the flags in the Spandau City History Museum in a two-week practical project. They recorded, digitized and documented the condition of the flags with the utmost care. They also researched their history and that of their institutions in the museum’s archive.

The Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Spandau owns an important collection of magnificently designed historical flags and banners. These include pieces from former district, sports, choir, allotment garden, craft and war clubs, schools and the Spandau army workshops that existed until 1919. In the exhibition, they present two selected flags, which are supplemented by historical documents and photographs and provide an insight into the history of the flags. These are the 1887 flag of the Royal Rifle and Ammunition Factory Spandau, which was donated to the museum by the German Society for Military Science in 2023, and the 1927 flag of the Free Blacksmiths’ Guild of Spandau, whose flagpole was donated to the museum last year by the Spandau Local History Association 1954.

Exhibition in the Commandant’s House of the Citadel from 28.2.2025 to 6.7.2025.
