The first international symposium of sculptors will take place at the Spandau Citadel under the patronage of Gerhard Hanke, Councillor of the Spandau District. Artistic work, from the first draft to the finished sculpture, can be experienced by the public in a successive open-air exhibition. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Spandau town twinning with Asnières sur Seine and Luton, six international artists are invited to work for one week in the spectacular ambience of the Citadel on the Brandenburg Bastion and to present their own work to an interested audience.

This year’s symposium theme “SPRUNG” focuses on the importance of culture and art as instruments of cross-border understanding.

The participants the first sculpture symposium at the Citadel come from the Spandau twin towns and districts of Asnières-sur-Seine, Volgograd, Siegen, Fassberg, Havelland and Spandau.

A sculpture symposium lives in the present and is a snapshot of artistic development and the time in which we live. Getting to know visitors and artists has a direct effect and is a living cultural exchange. The artists and their resulting works are presented in the context of regular discussions with artists.

The exhibition runs in the Bastion Brandenburg / Italienische Höfe from 5.10 – 8.11.19 during the regular opening hours of the Citadel.

An event of the district Spandau in the context of the celebrations to the 60th anniversary of the town twinning between Spandau and Asniéres-sur-Seine and Luton. Kindly supported by the partnership association Spandau, Trinity Music and Zitadellen Wirtschaft.
