Artist Talk with Funda Özgünaydin and Dr. Sarah Frost in the exhibition If Animals Could Speak.
With her exhibition in the ZAK Lounge, Funda Özgünaydin offers insights into her wide-ranging artistic processes. Her work encompasses photography-based image series exploring the relationship between animals and humans, video miniatures, and large-scale paintings. In these works, the chimera—a hybrid being that exists between human and animal—becomes a new medium for critically exploring the world. Many of her works examine inherited structures and fixed identities, seeking to move closer to the truth beneath the surface in an age of increasingly complex image-making processes.
Dr. Sarah Frost is an art historian who completed her doctorate at the Braunschweig University of Art as part of the German Research Foundation’s Research Training Group The Photographic Apparatus. For her dissertation, she researched the estate of American photographer Jerry Berndt. Her engagement with archives and photographic collections in Germany, Italy, Austria, Japan, and the United States has opened up numerous new perspectives on the ways in which artistic collections are approached and studied.
