Public Guided Tour | Occupied! Squatting and forest protest in Spandau

Armoury

Sunday 6.6.2027 11.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m.

“What?! Squatting in houses and forests in Spandau?!”

It wasn’t just in Kreuzberg—a vibrant protest movement also took shape in the 1970s and 1980s in the supposedly quiet district of Spandau. On this guided tour of the exhibition, you’ll learn more about the (squatter) actions in Berlin’s western district: Why did people occupy the Spandau Forest with a wooden hut in November 1976, turning Oberjägerweg into the city’s most famous street at the time? What was the purpose of the occupation of the youth club in Falkenhagener Feld? And what do so-called “maintenance squats” have to do with Old Town redevelopment? Join us on a tour through a lesser-known chapter of Spandau’s history. Join the discussion on what we can learn from those past actions for the present, how politics in (West) Berlin has changed, and what role environmental protection and urban planning play today.
