Lecture: „Frauen um Otto von Bismarck: Die Liebe, der Hass, das Vermächtnis“

Chancellor Otto von Bismarck’s closest associates included his wife, his daughter and one of his two daughters-in-law. As actors with their own agendas and voices, these three had hardly received any attention to date. The extent to which political aspects flowed into the Bismarcks’ family discourse, in which both genders were involved, and the resulting interactions have therefore remained hidden. In her book “Im Schatten des Staatsmanns. Johanna, Marie and Marguerite von Bismarck as aristocratic protagonists (1824-1945)”. The lecture by Dr Andrea Hopp (Otto von Bismarck Foundation Schönhausen) will shed light on the tasks that these three women were assigned and the significance that feelings such as love and hate had when they fulfilled them.
