Armoury

Thursday 25.9.2025 6.00 p.m. - 8.00 p.m.

Lecture by Alexandra Otten, subject specialist at Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg

On the morning after the Reichstag fire, on February 28, 1933, the well-known pacifist writer Carl von Ossietzky was arrested and taken to the Spandau fortress prison. Letters from this period have been preserved and are now on display in the exhibition at the Citadel. In her lecture, Alexandra Otten traces the struggle of Ossietzky—who was ultimately murdered in a concentration camp in 1938—against the Nazi dictatorship, and highlights the continued relevance of his work today.
