Dear visitors,

at irregular intervals, we show you works from the district’s art collection here in the ZAK lounge. This collection includes works by well-known and lesser-known artists, not only from Spandau.

For the next few months, we will be showing rarely exhibited works by Heinrich von Medvey, Paul Budich, Günter Fischer and Charlotte Herzog von Berg.

Heinrich von Medvey’s large-format painting comes from the Senate’s stock of works that were purchased as part of the Berlin Artists’ Emergency Aid after the Second World War to support visual artists. Paul Budich was from Spandau and worked for many years as an art teacher in Spandau. Since its exhibition in the Gotisches Haus in 2005, Charlotte Herzog von Berg has given the large-format triptych to the district on permanent loan. The significant works by Günter Fischer were commissioned by the former head of the art department, Gerd Steinmöller, while the Berlin Wall was still in place. The painter was granted an artist’s visa for the GDR and worked along the old Spandau-Nauen S-Bahn line.
