Daniel Sambo-Richter

Solo exhibition

11.9.2020 – 2.5.2021

Center for Contemporary Art, Galerie ground floor

Daniel Sambo-Richter’s new exhibition “Orange over White” is devoted to current social changes and the state of our world on a metaphorical level. Originally based on media reports about the melting poles and worldwide fires, he is currently devoting himself to painterly approaches to the representation of fire and ice. Recently he has completed a series of large-format works that show formations of icebergs as well as pictures of erupting volcanoes, burning houses and cars in multi-part cycles. Including an eight-meter painting that was created at Liebenberg Castle. The visually stunning compositions confront us with the beauty of the catastrophe in the same way that they visualize the overexploitation of nature. With his new works, Daniel Sambo-Richter alternates between fascination and menace with image traditions that go far back in art history and adapts them for the 21st century. Even in the art of the 19th century, the depictions of the Arctic Ocean or burning cities were a symbol of social and political upheavals.

Daniel Sambo-Richter (* 1966 in Görlitz) completed a degree in painting at the University of Fine Arts Dresden in Cottbus and received numerous grants and awards. He is regularly represented in national and international exhibitions and lives and works in Berlin.
