Dialogic Curation | Architecture and Design of the Exhibition “Unveiled. Berlin and Its Monuments”

Provisions Depot

Sunday 26.7.2026 3.00 p.m. - 3.59 p.m.

Sometimes the museum is criticized for it, but more often than not it is admired: the architectural and curatorial design of the 2016 exhibition was groundbreaking. The spaces are impressive, the color palette striking, the focus on objects rather than text consistent, and the multimedia integration effective. But what was particularly special and forward-thinking was the decision to display monuments in their preserved state—with discoloration, bullet holes, and graffiti—and even to allow visitors to touch them. All of this contributes to an inclusive experience in which blind and visually impaired people can also participate.

Join a guided tour of “Unveiled” with Carmen Mann (Head of Collections) and Brigitte Fischer (Exhibition Designer) to gain insights into the exhibition’s creation and decision-making process—and join the discussion: How aesthetically impressive can an exhibition of controversial monuments be?
