Unveiling of the Karl Marx bust

Saturday 9.5.2026 3.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.

In 2016, the museum “Unveiled: Berlin and Its Monuments” opened its doors to the heavy symbols of an unwanted culture of remembrance: from the Siegesallee in the Tiergarten to the head of the famous Lenin monument—problematic history you can touch. Since the monument topplings of 2020, this museum—still unique worldwide—has garnered international attention and continues to receive additional “toxic” monuments from the Nazi and GDR eras. To mark the 10th anniversary of the exhibition, the bronze bust of Karl Marx (1953, Will Lammert) will now be unveiled as the kickoff to the year of events; it once stood in the entrance area of Humboldt University in Berlin and disappeared into the basement after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Speakers at the unveiling:
Dr. Carola Brückner, District Councilor
Dr. Christina Kuhli, Curator at Humboldt University of Berlin
Dr. Urte Evert, Museum Director

The event will be in German.
