The novel, which has not yet been published, traces the life of the archetypal artist Anton in a blend of biography and fiction. It follows him from his first steps in the art world through the ups and downs of an artist’s life, through successes and failures, poverty and prosperity, to his end, when he once again vanishes into the ether of oblivion. The story offers an exemplary portrait of the life of a so-called school failure who, through art and his exceptional artistic talent, finds his way to education and knowledge.
Dieter Hacker (born 1942 in Augsburg) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and gained international recognition after moving to Berlin, in the context of the painting movement known as the Junge Wilde (“Young Wild Ones”). From 1990 to 2007, he taught painting as a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). It was there that he met his two former students, Ewa Finn and Katharina Poos. Out of friendship and respect for their artistic achievements, he will read from his manuscript as part of their exhibition Windstille Nacht (“Windless Night”).
The reading will be in German.
