23.8.2019 – 5.1.2020

Zeughaus / Arsenal

The exhibition Der Naive Krieg is dedicated to the creative processing of war experiences in folk and lay art. Georg Barber/ATAK’s collection documents a very special genre of memory culture: personal works by people in wartime who artistically expressed their experiences as soldiers or prisoners in various forms. The drawings, paintings and model buildings on display create an intense proximity to the experiences of those affected. Their timeframe extends from the two world wars to the present day. Historical testimonies are presented in the exhibition together with works by contemporary artists such as Moritz Götze, Helge Reumann, Clemens von Wedemeyer, 44flavours, TAL R, Thorsten Brinkmann, Heino Jaeger and Josef Wittlich.

Kindly supported by the district promotion funds of the Senate Administration for Culture and Europe.
